The Hayride on PRX
'The Hayride' with Dan Wargo is a Series of 200 programs that are 1 hour each of Roots-Americana, Country and Folk music from North America.
This Series is available on Public Radio Exchange. It has been a regular part of the broadcast schedule of Public Radio in CA/OR, and MT/WY as well as Iowa and Tennessee for more than five years.
All programs on this site are original, made for Public Radio Exchange, and are available individually, or as part of the Series of 200. We explore the diversity of Roots-Americana Music including Mountain, Alternative Country and Western, Cajun, Folk, Bluegrass, Western Swing Jazz as well as Rockabilly in these 1 hour programs that are presented with listening enjoyment in mind.
The Hayride is a radio series dedicated to the healthy and living variety of Folk, and Roots Music developed by the various communities of North America. Since the time of mechanical recording devices invented in the last century, Roots-Americana music has developed many different styles heard on this Series. We hear Bluegrass, Mountain, Country Swing, Folk, Cajun as well as many other related styles including modern renditions of the traditional...
These programs are one hour in length, and are available for radio stations to broadcast from Public Radio Exchange. Many listeners have gone to the Playlists to see what they have heard, and have contacted me on the internet, or by telephone. Roots Music has always been popular, and a vehicle for mostly acoustic musicians to interact with audiences mixing traditional means of performing with new ways of approaching their instruments. The rich cultural heritage we all share in North America provides me, as Producer, Engineer and Host, with many opportunities to present the recent, and historical music of quality performed ever since people took to their instruments to express personal and social realities. The Hayride also recognizes and presents new music as this genre is continuing to develop in this century.
I seek to provide a venue dedicated to the authenticity of this sound that is more than music that is sometimes commercially viable...Roots Music is also a living, cultural context that The Hayride Series explores and presents...Originally heard on KHSU-FM in California, this program was appreciated for including a variety of musical styles, as well as the spoken word, without an emphasis on 'history lessons', or long winded ruminations about the music often associated with roots music programs.
